Gay-Lussac was born in Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat on 6 December 1778 and he passed away in Paris on 9 May 1850. He was a French chemist and physicist. He is mostly known for his discovery that water is made of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen, for two laws related to gases, and for his work on alcohol-water mixtures, which led to the degrees Gay-Lussacc used to measure alcoholic beverages in many countries.
  3. Museum: Historail: railway museum.
  4. Museum: paper and printing museum: the Moulin du Got. The mill produces handmade paper, art cartoons, and printing works with techniques that date back to between the 15th and the 20th centuries. Visitors are invited to participate and to discover a know-how that is used for contemporary creations.
  5. Porcelain store: J.L. Coquet: fine porcelain that shines today on all the tables all over the world. Decorated and manufactured in Limoges since 1824.

  1. In proximity of Evaux-les-Bains there are a lot of ancient castles and churches, an ancient dam (le barrage de Rochebut in Teillet-Argenty) and the oldest wooden suspension bridge of France (between Evaux-les-Bains and Budelière).
  2. Each year on the first Sunday after 10 October you can walk a pilgrimage of 8 kilometres from Evaux-les-Bains to the Chapel of Saint Marien (La Chapelle Saint Marien).
  3. Visiting very lovely villages not far from Evaux-les-Bains, such as Chambon sur Voueize,  Aubusson and Mainsat.


  • Oradour-sur-Glane

Oradour-sur-Glane is 75 kilometres away from Mourioux Vieilleville.

A very interesting village to visit for all people who are interested in the Second World War.

On 10 June 1944 the village of Oradour-sur-Glane was destroyed and 642 of its inhabitants, including women and children, were massacred by a German Waffen-SS company. In 1999 the French president Jacques Chirac dedicated a memorial museum, the “Centre de la Mémoire d’Oradour”, near the entrance to the “Village Martyr” (martyred village). Its museum includes items recovered from the burned-out buildings. The ruins of the original village remain as a memorial to the dead and to represent similar sites and events.

We can inform you about the dates and places of these typical French (brocante) markets.

2. Each year in June there is an oldtimer show in Mourioux Vieilleville.

Besides the oldtimers you can also admire several agricultural machines. And there is an exchange of miniature cars.

3. Walking and cycling.

We have several hiking- and cycling trails for you.

4. In the summer there are several festivals in the Creuse, also in Guéret (30 km away from our bed & breakfast).
